At Carlson Paint & Paper, we’re always looking for ways to make the job a little more efficient. Anyone who has spent time painting windows and doors knows that masking glass can take a lot of time, especially when you’re dealing with multiple panes. Recently, I started experimenting with Masking Liquid H2O from Associated Paint to see if it can help simplify some of that process.

What the Product Does

Masking Liquid H2O is a water-based masking coating designed to peel easily from glass after painting. Instead of taping every pane of glass individually, the idea is simple:

  1. Apply the masking liquid to the glass

  2. Paint your window or trim

  3. Peel the film away when you're done

The coating goes on white and dries clear, forming a protective film that can be removed after the painting is finished.

Testing It on the Jobsite

As with any product, we’re putting it through real-world testing on the jobsite to see where it makes sense to use.

Some situations may still call for traditional masking methods like tape and paper. Other situations, especially projects with multiple glass inserts or French doors, might be where a product like this really shines.

The goal is always the same:get clean results while saving time when possible.

Why It’s Worth Trying

One thing we’ve learned over the years at Carlson Paint & Paper is that every job is different. What works perfectly on one project may not be the best approach on another. Products like Masking Liquid H2O are interesting because they give painters another option in the toolbox.

If it helps speed up certain types of work without sacrificing quality, it could be a great addition to the process.

The Painter’s Approach

After many years in the trade, we know there’s rarely just one “right way” to do something. Sometimes tape is the best option. Sometimes a different method can save time.

That’s why we’re always open to testing new products and techniques to see what works best.

Masking Liquid H2O is one of those products we’re currently experimenting with to see where it fits into our workflow.
